Combating Trafficking of Women in Moldova: Moldova Employment and Training Alliance (META)

CPD was invited to collaborate with Catholic relief Services for the CRS’s Project – Combating Trafficking of Women in Moldova: Moldova Employment and Training Alliance (META) In the frame of this initiative, CPD carried on development of the sub-project Sustainable livelihoods (SL) for young rural women. CPD and other CRS’s partners has assisted women by empowering them to manage the demands of work, personal, and family life over the long term, and to mitigate trafficking risks by empowering women against exploitation. 2 Trainings of Trainers with 28 persons were organised by CPD in the area of SL, 10 Trainings for Sustainable Livelihood have been conducted by CPD, with 270 female beneficiaries. After the trainings on SL, women and girls have been employed into various jobs. CPD had elaborated a Guide for rural young women on Sustainable livelihoods issues, which has been distributed among up to 1000 beneficiaries. The project offered legal employment opportunities to the target population, by offering sustainable jobs, decent work conditions, minimum salary paid according to the law, four-month minimum duration of the labour contract. Also, through project activities and TSL package the vulnerability of beneficiaries to trafficking had been significantly reduced.

“Equal opportunities for women and men in the 2007 local elections”, aimed on the monitoring of the political participation of women and men in the local elections, both as candidates and elective people. Also, we’ve developed a wide analysis of the mass-media involvement in the consideration of female and male candidates to the different functions (mayor or councilor).

In the frame of this project, we’ve prepared a group of 15 persons from different rayons as instructors on gender discrimination in the labor market issue, which were involved in organizing seminars in theirs localities, with persons from local public administration, schools, employment agencies, employers, employees, etc.

"Exhaustive approach to the phenomenon of sexual harassment and presentation of proposals for improving the legal framework”, aimed on developing a national representatively survey on sexual harassment with working female, and female students, in order to find how is frequency and peculiarities of the sexual harassment phenomenon at workplaces and educational institutions. Within the international campaign “16 days against VAW” CPD delivered a seminar on sexual harassment issues.

The project is oriented to a group of NGOs that are working in the area of gender-based violence. We proposed them some models of comprehensive program of rehabilitation of the aggressors or potential aggressors and encourage them to develop, at community level, similar program for prevention and intervention in case of domestic violence incidents, oriented both to victims, and aggressors.
