During May month of this year took place „The Transparency Week” Campaign, involving 18 communities from all regions of Moldova, that are actual partners of Centre “Partnership for Development” (CPD). The event was organized by representatives of NGOs, local public authorities (LPA) and community citizens. This campaign aimed to inform and encourage both women and men to actively participate in decision making process, and to increase the transparency level of Local Public Authorities’ activity. Therefore, the activities were organized in the field of:
1. Community Development and Fundraising;
2. Finance and Budgeting, tax collection;
3. Public acquisitions, business and commerce;
4. Decision making process and legal aspects.
The volunteers along with LPAs carry out a diverse number of activities during the project, designed to motivate community members to actively get involved in solving community problems. Some of the activities were as mentioned bellow:
• Round Tables of LPA's representatives and citizens, particularly young people showing a high interest in this field.
• Legal pieces of advice from representatives of local governments and public organizations.
• Information campaigns on Law Nr.928 of 11.05.2000 on Access to Information and Public Law nr.239. of 13.11.2008 on transparency in decision making.
• Public debates
• Roundtable regarding the participation of women in decision-making process in community life.
• Visits to Municipalities Communities
• Protocols Analysis of City Council meetings
• Contests and photo contests
• Distribution of „The Active Citizens Guide” by volunteers. Centre Partnership for Development was the direct responsible to print and distribute the 1500 guides to each partner-NGO, which were later distributed among citizens by volunteers. After analyzing the data, we estimated that about 700 people in each village received „The Active Citizens Guide”.
Within the project were directly involved nearly 1185 people, including 751 women and 434 men, and indirectly - an estimated number of 13,000 people. These numbers leads us to believe that the project had a major positive impact in society, which will bring positive changes in society through citizens’ involvement in decision making process at community level.
“Transparency Week “was organized with the generous support of the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), under the FHI360 Moldova Civil Society Strengthening Program (MCSSP).
